Results showed the components of surgeon burnout – psychological exhaustion, perception and depersonalization personal accomplishments – were related to errors; as was surgeons’ ‘mental standard of living’ including depressive disorder.D. ‘Our aim is to encourage more research to discover ways to reduce distress among surgeons and to offer better support when mistakes occur.’ The authors say medical mistakes can haunt surgeons for a long time and donate to distress. Of the 7,905 surgeons taking part in the study, 8.9 % or 700 reported making recent medical errors that they considered major.
